Södermannen and the serial rapes
From 2011. In the Haga district of Gothenburg, a masked man enters through open windows or picks the latches on the doors of lonely women. New episodes from P3 Dokumentär can be found first in Sveriges Radio Play. The perpetrator's method follows one and the same pattern: During the early morning hours, he enters masked into the homes of lonely women, often living on the ground floor. In the police's extensive preliminary investigation, it later emerges that he mapped out his victims in advance, and in October 1974, the then 28-year-old perpetrator is sentenced to four years in prison for 16 rapes and assaults. Here, one of the worst rapists of our time should be stopped from committing more crimes. But in 1982, eight years after the trial in Gothenburg, the Stockholm police make a horrific discovery. The man who was convicted of the rapes in Gothenburg was conditionally released after two years. He then moved to the Södermalm district of Stockholm and will, during the years 1978-1982, be guilty of another ten or so rapes and assaults. Again, the victims are single young women. The program was first published in 2011 with the title "The Söderman". A documentary by: Emma Janke.
