Build The Life You Want – Episode 2

From Oprah's Super Soul

In Episode Two of the Build the Life You Want Super Soul Podcast, Oprah and Arthur C. Brooks, co-authors of the #1 New York Times bestseller “Build the Life You Want,” take questions from readers who are curious how to make their own lives happier with the science-based research and actionable practices from the book. Arthur Brooks explains that living a happier life starts with focusing less on yourself by saying, “Your load is lightened when you’re helping another person. You’re going to draw love to yourself when you actually give it.” Oprah and Arthur C. Brooks also talk to readers who are struggling with envy and “the disease to please” as well as the sometimes difficult “Family Pillar of Happiness.” Arthur C. Brooks has advice on how to address what he calls the one-directional “emotional ATM” in families and why one of the hardest challenges with loved ones is forgiveness. Want more podcasts from OWN? Visa

From Acquired

To paraphrase Visa founder Dee Hock, how many of you know Visa? Great, all of you. Now, how many of you know how it started? Or, for that matter, who started it? Who runs and governs it? Where is it headquartered? What’s its business model? For the 11th largest market cap company in the world, Visa’s history and strategy is almost shockingly unknown. A huge portion of the world’s population uses their products on a daily basis (you might say Visa is… everywhere people want to be), but very few know the amazing story behind how that came to be. Or why Visa continues to be one of the most incredible and incredibly durable business franchises of all-time. (50%+ net income margins!! On $30B of revenue!) Today we do our part to change that. A very Planet Money Thanksgiving

From Planet Money

Here at Planet Money, Thanksgiving is not just a time to feast on turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casseroles and pie(s). It's also a time to feast on economics. Today, we host a very Planet Money Thanksgiving feast, and solve a few economic questions along the way.First: a turkey mystery. Around the holidays, demand for turkey at grocery stores goes up by as much as 750%. And when turkey demand is so high, you might think that the price of turkey would also go up. But data shows, the price of whole turkeys actually falls around the holidays; it goes down by around 20%. So what's going on? The answer has to do what might be special about supply and demand around the holidays. We also reveal what is counted (and not counted) in the ways we measure the economy. And we look to economics to help solve the perennial Thanksgiving dilemma: Where should each dinner guest sit? Who should sit next to whom? This episode was hosted by Erika Beras and Jeff Guo. It was produced by James Sneed with an assist from Emma Peaslee and edited by Jess Jiang. It was fact-checked by Sierra Juarez and engineered by Josh Newell.
