5 ethical principles for digitizing humanitarian aid | Aarathi Krishnan

From TED Talks Daily

Over the last decade, humanitarian organizations have digitized many of their systems, from registering refugees with biometric IDs to transporting cargo via drones. This has helped deliver aid around the world, but it's also brought new risks to the people it's meant to protect. Tech and human rights ethicist Aarathi Krishnan points to the dangers of digitization -- like sensitive data getting into the hands of the wrong people -- and lays out five ethical principles to help inform humanitarian tech innovation.Learn more about our flagship conference happening this April at attend.ted.com/podcast Hosted on Acast. Improve Flexibility with Research-Supported Stretching Protocols

From Huberman Lab

In this episode, I explain the science behind limb range of motion and flexibility and how to increase them by using science-supported protocols. Flexibility is crucial for physical movements and can help prevent injuries, decrease inflammation, modulate physical and mental pain, impact exercise recovery speed and even potentially slow the progression of certain diseases. I explain the biology of flexibility, including the specific neural mechanisms that sense stretch and load (i.e., tension) on the muscles and limbs, as well as how specific brain regions like the insula combine those signals to ultimately control limb range of movement. I also provide science-based stretching and “micro-stretching” protocols that reliably improve limb flexibility with the minimum necessary time investment. I review all the details of those stretching protocols: how often to do them, for how long, their timing relative to other exercises, sets, the time between sets, measuring progress and more. All people, physically active or not, should benefit from the information and tools described in this episode. For the full show notes, visit hubermanlab.com. #486 - Gurwinder Bhogal - 14 Mental Models To Understand Human Nature

From Modern Wisdom

Gurwinder Bhogal is a programmer and a writer. Gurwinder is one of my favourite Twitter follows. He’s written another monstrous thread exploring human nature, cognitive biases, mental models, status games, crowd behaviour and social media. It's one of the best things I've read this year, so I just had to bring him on. Expect to learn why stupidity is more dangerous than evil, why most content has to appeal to midwits, why political debates are essentially mass-scaled ventriloquizism, how lower stakes lead to more vicious arguments, why the word retard is a strange choice as an unspeakable slur, why being a mess is more likeable than being perfect and much more… Sponsors: Join the Modern Wisdom Community to connect with me & other listeners - https://modernwisdom.locals.com/ Get 2 weeks Free Access to the State App at https://bit.ly/statewisdom (discount automatically applied) Get 2 weeks free access to Wondrium by going to https://www.wondrium.com/modernwisdom (discount automatically applied) Get 5 Free Travel Packs, Free Liquid Vitamin D and Free Shipping from Athletic Greens at https://athleticgreens.com/modernwisdom (discount automatically applied) Extra Stuff: Follow Gurwinder on Twitter - https://twitter.com/G_S_Bhogal Gurwinder's MegaThread: https://twitter.com/G_S_Bhogal/status/1527720869191114756  Subscribe to Gurwinder’s Substack: https://gurwinder.substack.com/  Get my free Reading List of 100 books to read before you die → https://chriswillx.com/books/ To support me on Patreon (thank you): https://www.patreon.com/modernwisdom - Get in touch. #485 - Susan Cain - Why Sensitive People Enjoy Feeling Sad

From Modern Wisdom

Susan Cain is a best-selling author and speaker. There’s a tyranny of positivity in the modern world. Talking about emotions like longing and sorrow are not usually encouraged. And yet tons of people feel like this and hearing others tell us about their melancholy brings us closer to them, so how can we integrate bittersweet emotions into our lives and what can they teach us about ourselves? Expect to learn whether the world has become better for introverts, why sad music seems to make us happy, whether people are genetically predisposed to feeling bittersweet emotions, how to deal with impermanence in life when everyone we love is going to die, why I felt sad after looking at the moon and much more… Sponsors: Join the Modern Wisdom Community to connect with me & other listeners - https://modernwisdom.locals.com/ Get 10% discount on your first month from BetterHelp at https://betterhelp.com/modernwisdom (discount automatically applied) Get 15% discount on Upgraded Formulas Magnesium at https://upgradedformulas.com/ (use code: MW15) Get 20% discount on the highest quality CBD Products from Pure Sport at https://bit.ly/cbdwisdom (use code: MW20) Extra Stuff: Buy Bittersweet - https://amzn.to/3xjy9AE  Get my free Reading List of 100 books to read before you die → https://chriswillx.com/books/ To support me on Patreon (thank you): https://www.patreon.com/modernwisdom - Get in touch.
