Birgit is a resistance activist, writer, qualified pedagogue and, together with her husband Horst, founder of the festival “Jamel rockt den Förster”. They live in the village of Jamel in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a stronghold of the German neo-Nazi scene. Despite great resistance, they have been committed to democracy and tolerance there for over 20 years and are supported by many artists in the country. Since its foundation in 2007, their festival has featured not only Die Toten Hosen, but also Die Ärzte, Deichkind, Danger Dan and Bosse. I visited her at her home and wanted to know from Birgit where she gets the tireless strength for resistance, what her life was like before moving to Jamel and how she looks to the future.
