Daniel is an author and essayist. He has written about home, sobriety, and being alone – and now about love as a political act. We conducted the conversation live in front of an audience in Leipzig. I wanted to know from him why he has perceived an ever-growing wave of hatred for several years and why he sees a political answer to it precisely in love. We talk about how his own fear and retraumatization from the 90s feels and why silence and looking away are no longer an option for him. Minerva Mirabal grew up in the Dominican Republic at a time when dictator Trujillo tolerated no dissent and demanded absolute loyalty. But the young woman made no secret of her thoughts on politics and justice. When the Mirabals were invited to a ball hosted by the dictator in 1949, where he made advances towards her, that evening would change her life forever. A resistance against the regime grew within her, one that could no longer be stopped and soon extended far beyond her own family. In this episode of "Mordlust – Crimes and their Backgrounds," we talk about what it means to show courage in a system that punishes every deviation. It's about female resistance, the mechanisms of a dictatorship, power, machismo, and how three women became symbolic figures for an entire country, and how their legacy resonates internationally to this day. For the case of the Butterflies is why November 25th is now recognized as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls. Together with her son and her brother, she hikes one winter across frost-covered meadows and field paths – until she suddenly collapses and can no longer take a step. A momentous diagnosis determines her everyday life from then on. Unexpectedly, Holger enters her life a little later. At first, he alleviates her pain through acupuncture, but soon he becomes the center of her life. Holger soon opens his own naturopathic practice in Christiane's house – a place that will be completely turned upside down a few years later because of a gruesome suspicion. What comes to light is a human abyss that has dragged several victims into the depths. Her mother Sylvia, her stepfather Marco, and her little sister Miriam are all missing. Sabine repeatedly tries to reach the three, but all her calls and messages go unanswered. There are also no clues to their disappearance in the family's house. The police begin a large-scale search operation. Sabine is convinced that everything will be cleared up and turn out to be a misunderstanding - until a family member is finally found dead on day eight of the investigation. The case of the Schulze family from Drage occupied the whole of Germany in the summer of 2015 and raised questions to which there are still no clear answers today. On his new album "Große Kunst" he tells the story of his father, who fled the GDR in 1989 – and thus also the story of an entire generation. Dot doesn't know what's been going on with her son Stephen lately.
