The decision comes amid the scandal over the libertarian deputy's ties to businessman Fred Machado, which forced him to also resign his candidacy as the leading national deputy for La Libertad Avanza in the strategic province of Buenos Aires, a key electoral section ahead of the legislative elections on October 26. "José Luis Espert got caught up in his own lies. We had asked him to step aside from the presidency of the commission because he had already received enormous accusations," said Oscar Zago, deputy of the Movement for Integration and Development, former member of La Libertad Avanza, on Cara o Ceca. "Every week there is a serious act of corruption. There was the case of the former head of the National Disability Agency, the alleged cryptocurrency Libra scam, and that's how we cover up the cases. All of La Libertad Avanza should be giving a response, they hurt the presidential investiture," he added. On the other hand, we spoke with the deputy of Republican Proposal (PRO) Sergio Capozzi, who assured that Espert's decision to withdraw from the candidacy "was delayed longer than it should have been" and that "it harmed the entire electorate." "I believe that Diego Santilli [who will replace Espert on the list for the province of Buenos Aires] is an excellent candidate, it is not a loss but the representation of someone who comes from politics," he concluded.
