Three years ago, on November 24, a residential building in Urumqi caught fire, and due to lockdown measures, some residents were unable to escape, ultimately resulting in 10 deaths. The authorities' callousness, indifference, and arrogance regarding this incident sparked immense public discontent. The accumulated sorrow, anger, and despair among the people gradually escalated into offline protests.First, Urumqi citizens, then Beijing citizens, followed by university students across the country, and finally on Urumqi Middle Road in Shanghai. While mourning the victims of the fire, people demanded an end to lockdowns, no transfers, no nucleic acid testing, and some even loudly shouted slogans that were unimaginable just a few days prior: they wanted freedom, democracy, press freedom, the CCP to step down, and Xi Jinping to step down.Three years ago, the Bumingbai podcast interviewed 6 young people who participated in offline demonstrations in Shanghai and other places. At that time, the voices from the scene and the protesters were so real, and our emotions were so intense. At the time, I wanted to know what drove them to the scene, to post flyers.
