What the world learned (and what it forgot) from the US invasions

    From 🇧🇷 O Assunto, published at 2026-01-12 03:17

Guest: Filipe Figueiredo, a historian from USP, columnist for the newspaper O Estado de São Paulo, and creator of the Xadrez Verbal podcast. With the largest military structure on the planet, for decades the United States has transformed its military power into an instrument of foreign policy. In the name of national security and strategic interests, Washington acted – directly or indirectly – to intervene in the politics of other countries around the globe. The results left traces of instability and lasting crises. For example, what happened in Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan, where the American occupation lasted two decades. Now, US President Donald Trump states that the intervention in Venezuela has no end date – and will last until a process of power transition. In this episode, Victor Boyadjian talks with historian Filipe Figueiredo. A columnist for the newspaper O Estado de São Paulo and creator and host of the Xadrez Verbal podcast, Filipe recalls what led to the invasions of countries in Latin America and the Middle East – and explains how the MAGA movement gives a new guise to the process of American interventionism. He explains what went wrong in a series of intervention processes and, finally, draws a parallel between the invasions of Iraq and Venezuela.

1000 Crore Secret: How NoBroker Makes Money with 0% Commission | Paisa Vaisa

From 🇮🇳 Paisa Vaisa with Anupam Gupta, published at 2026-01-12 00:30

This comprehensive episode of the Paisa Vaisa podcast features host Anupam Gupta in an deep-dive conversation with Amit Agarwal, the CEO and co-founder of NoBroker, to decode the complex Indian real estate market for 2026 . We begin by exploring the disruptive journey of NoBroker which started in Bombay back in 2013 to solve the massive problem of fly-by-night brokers and high commission fees that have plagued the property market for decades . Amit explains the critical math behind the rent versus buy dilemma that every Indian professional faces today, highlighting why renting often makes more financial sense because typical residential rental yields are only between two to four percent while home loan interest rates hover around eight percent . The discussion provides a detailed analysis of the Model Tenancy Act which balances the rights of both owners and tenants by capping security deposits at two months and establishing a hierarchy of rent courts for sixty-day dispute resolution . We also address the infamous bachelor tax and societal discrimination where single tenants are often charged a premium despite being high-value renters with more disposable income than traditional families . This video is a masterclass for anyone looking to understand the real estate ecosystem from property appreciation and wealth generation to navigating the strict rental processes of Mumbai versus the more casual documentation found in other major Indian cities Key Takeaways The 8% Rule: Buying a home is often financially inefficient in India because rental yields (2-4%) are far lower than home loan interest rates (8%) . Commercial Potential: Investors can achieve up to 12% rental yield by targeting small commercial shops instead of residential apartments . Deposit Laws: The Model Tenancy Act aims to stop the "Bangalore trend" of high deposits by capping them at a maximum of 2 months. Bachelor Advantage: Landlords should stop the "Bachelor Tax" as single tenants often pay more rent and have higher disposable income . The Amenity Trap: Post-COVID luxury boom has pushed many into paying high maintenance for amenities they rarely use . Investment Zones: For 2024, Pune offers "great deals" for investors while the NCR market is currently a zone to be "most careful about" From decoding your personal finances to demystifying business models, Paisa Vaisa delivers candid, insightful, and jargon-free conversations.Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, JioSaavn, Gaana & more Watch full episodes right here on YouTubeExplore more at ivmpodcasts.comConnect with Anupam Gupta: Twitter: @b50Instagram: @b_50 LinkedIn: Anupam Gupta Follow IVM PodcastsWe’re @ivmpodcasts on Facebook, Twitter & InstagramSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Call from Prison: Guan Heng on Xinjiang Concentration Camps and New York Immigrant Detention

    From 🇨🇳 不明白播客, published at 2026-01-11 23:30

Today's podcast episode is quite special. Our guest, Guan Heng, is currently in a prison in New York, and our recording was completed via a prison phone. He is now in prison awaiting a hearing that will determine the course of his destiny—the U.S. government will decide whether to deport him.In 2020, Guan Heng traveled alone to Xinjiang, risking his life to film images of Xinjiang's re-education camps, providing crucial corroboration for international media investigative reports on Xinjiang's concentration camps. After deciding to leave China in 2021, he made his way to the United States. Over the past four years, he delivered food, drove Uber, and even drove a truck for a period. He said, "I just hoped to have a life where I could feel inner peace."In August 2025, everything came to an abrupt halt. He was arrested during an ICE raid, then sent to a detention center, and has been detained for nearly five months now. The U.S. government once attempted to deport Guan Heng to Uganda but temporarily abandoned the plan after it drew public attention. From actively documenting violence under totalitarianism to personally being caught in a lengthy, unpredictable detention process, how has Guan Heng's understanding of "freedom" changed? In today's episode, we will revisit with Guan Heng, who is currently in detention: how he gradually became a dissident; why he chose to personally go to Xinjiang to film the concentration camps; how he drifted from the Caribbean Sea to the U.S. with just a small rubber dinghy; what hopes and disillusionments life in America brought him; and what exactly he experienced over the past four or five months.Note: This podcast episode was recorded on December 25th, Christmas Day.Timeline02:05 What are Guan Heng's current feelings and what concerns him most?06:18 Why did he choose to go to Xinjiang to film the concentration camps?11:26 How Guan Heng views risk and understands fear13:39 To publish these videos, did he have to leave China?18:41 How did a small rubber dinghy cross the Caribbean Sea to reach the U.S.?23:29 What did Guan Heng experience after arriving in the U.S.?25:45 Attention, attacks, and pressure received after the concentration camp videos were released29:06 Why was Guan Heng arrested?31:59 "One moment I was driving a truck and filing taxes, the next I was a criminal."39:21 What did Guan Heng experience and witness in immigration detention?44:55 Why did he decide to become a resistor?Related Links:Guan Heng's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@guanguanofficial Hosted on Acast. So it was and so it will be

From 🇷🇺 Закат империи, published at 2026-01-11 21:00

Deep in Siberia, at the gold mines, workers began a strike, but it was suppressed with extreme brutality by the army. And if the company's management and local law enforcement thought that no one would care about a shooting deep in the taiga, they were sorely mistaken: 1912 was not 1905. Two commissions went to Siberia to investigate the crime, and one of them included the young and as yet little-known lawyer Alexander Kerensky.* * *Tickets for Andrey Aksyonov's lectures: https://dronopaedia.ru/events.html* * *Support Andrey:https://boosty.to/dronopaediahttps://patreon.com/zakat_podcasthttps://youtube.com/@zakat_podcast/join/https://t.me/tribute/app?startapp=dxVLhttps://app.lava.top/zakat_podcastSupport Libo/Libo studio: https://cutt.ly/zak25libolibo* * *Libo/Libo Play app: https://play.libolibo.me/* * *Subscribe to social media:https://t.me/zakat_podcasthttps://instagram.com/zakat_podcasthttps://youtube.com/@zakat_podcast* * *The episode was prepared with me by:Fact-checking: *******Editing: *******Sound: ******** * *Sources:The Truth about the Lena Events.
