Mihai Morar shows us what betting on youth means: the ideas through which Florin Estefan makes a profit, today, from culture! At 33 years old, baritone Florin Estefan had the courage to follow his passion for opera and take it to the next level, achieving an improbable performance: to become the youngest director of the Opera in Cluj-Napoca! Are You Optimizing Your Virtual Communication Practices?
From 🇺🇸 HBR IdeaCast, published at 2025-08-05 13:00
Whether your organization encourages working from home or the office, much of your business is no doubt conducted virtually — over email, on Slack, or via Zoom meetings. But few of us think very carefully about how to most effectively use these tools or which to employ when. And few teams and companies have established best practices for virtual communication, which can hurt collaboration, sales, engagement, and performance. Andrew Brodsky, a professor at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin who has researched these issues, outlines practical ways to be more conscientious and intentional about our communication choices and patterns. Brodsky wrote the book Ping: The Secrets of Successful Virtual Communication.

220. Prep Like a Pro: Communication Confidence, Clarity, and Comedy
From 🇺🇸 Think Fast Talk Smart: Communication Techniques, published at 2025-08-05 13:00
Master the art of thinking on your feet and turning unpredictability into powerful communication.Being quick on your feet isn’t just a performance skill — it’s a communication necessity. And for Peter Sagal, longtime host of NPR’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me, it’s a craft he’s honed over more than two decades in front of a live audience. In this expanded conversation from our Spontaneous Speaking series, Sagal shares what it really takes to communicate with presence, flexibility, and confidence when the script goes out the window.“My job was no longer to be funny — my job was to make funny possible,” Sagal explains, reflecting on the shift from performer to facilitator. He opens up about how structure and ritual prepare him to embrace chaos, why listening matters more than cleverness, and how he defines success not by what he says, but by what others are able to say because of him. “Preparation is key,” he notes, “but being willing to let go of that preparation and follow what’s happening in the moment is really important.”In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Sagal and host Matt Abrahams discuss how to navigate speaking on the spot—whether you're managing meetings, leading teams, or handling high-stakes conversations—and offer a powerful reminder: the best spontaneous communicators don’t control the moment—they connect through it.Episode Reference Links:Peter D Sagal Ep.197 Prep or Perish: Mastering In-the-Moment Communication (1 of 3)Ep.198 Pause and Effect: Mastering In-the-Moment Communication (2 of 3)Ep.199 Blunder Pressure: Mastering In-the-Moment Communication (3 of 3)Ep.203 No Script, No Problem: Final Secrets to Speaking Under Pressure (Bonus) Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> [email protected] Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInChapters:(00:00) - Introduction (02:36) - Making Funny Possible (03:45) - Ditching the Script (07:00) - Pre-Show Rituals (09:15) - How to Introduce People Well (12:18) - Being Funny in the Moment (14:12) - Staying Present On Stage (16:32) - Gracious Communication (19:48) - The Final Three Questions (23:24) - Conclusion ********This episode is sponsored by Grammarly. Bolsonaro em prisão domiciliar Bolsonaro under house arrest
From 🇧🇷 O Assunto, published at 2025-08-05 03:17
In the late afternoon of Monday (4th), STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes decreed the house arrest of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). In the decision, Moraes states that Bolsonaro used social media of allies – including his three parliamentary sons – to disseminate messages with "clear content of incentive and instigation to attacks on the Supreme Federal Court and ostensive support for foreign intervention in the Brazilian Judiciary." One of these posts occurred on Sunday (3rd) on the account of his son and senator, Flávio Bolsonaro, to echo acts in favor of Bolsonaro in cities across the country. Flávio deleted the post. Moraes also prohibited visits and ordered the seizure of cell phones at the former president's house. The Federal Police searched the place and collected a cell phone. Bolsonaro's defense denies that he has breached the precautionary measures imposed by Moraes. To explain what led to Moraes' decision, Alan Severiano talks to Rafael Mafei, professor at the USP Faculty of Law and ESPM. Mafei speaks about the legal basis for applying house arrest against Bolsonaro and answers what changes, in practice, in the restrictions imposed on the former president. Afterwards, Alan receives Andréia Sadi, presenter of GloboNews and columnist for g1. Andréia analyzes the moment of the decision, and reports that the assessment of other ministers of the Supreme Court is that Bolsonaro left the minister "with no way out" by failing to comply with measures imposed by him. She also echoes the reactions of Bolsonaro's allies after his house arrest was decreed.

In recent days, Hamas has released new videos showing Avitar David and Rom Braslavski in a difficult physical and mental state. Alongside the videos, changes have been taking place in the political arena in recent days: the Trump administration is signaling a change of direction, and in Prime Minister Netanyahu's environment, statements are being heard about a renewed occupation of the Gaza Strip, which may include fighting even in areas where, according to estimates, hostages are being held. This time we are with Professor Yuval Held, an expert in the physiology of the human body in extreme and stressful situations, and with our envoy in Washington - Barak Ravid, on the state of negotiations for the release of the hostages.

The copper mine tragedy in Chile left six miners dead.
From 🇦🇷 Cara o Ceca, published at 2025-08-04 18:35
Deceased workers trapped underground after a magnitude 4.2 tremor on Thursday 31st in central Chile destroyed part of the El Teniente mine, the world's largest copper deposit. "There are nine injured workers in addition to the six deceased. Three days of national mourning were decreed as a result of this situation," said Chilean journalist Lucas Aguayo on Cara o Ceca. "Many relatives will not be able to receive the bodies of the victims because they are very damaged and they have to carry out the corresponding expert reports to deliver them," he added. "It has been pointed out that the workers were not heard. There were previous complaints about the shelters inside the mine where the miners can go in these cases. They said they were closed," he concluded. The Argentine Government again resorted to the veto to defend fiscal balance. The Javier Milei Administration vetoed laws benefiting retirees and the disabled recently approved by Congress: the increase in assets, the restoration of the pension moratorium, and the declaration of emergency in disability. The official justification is based on the need to maintain fiscal balance. "There is no money, and the only way to make Argentina great again is with effort and honesty," the Government said in a statement. "For the opposition, the veto represents an act of cruelty, while for the Government it is a project of 'fiscal degenerates'. This discussion reinforces the concepts that there is a path towards provincial and national elections," said Argentine political scientist Gustavo Marangoni on Cara o Ceca. "Seniors feel attacked by [Javier] Milei's policy, between the freezing of the 70,000 pesos [a bonus of 55 dollars that is granted monthly and is not indexed] and the loss of real capacity in pensions, they generate a reason to vote against," he added.
