    #225 The new mommy

    From 🇩🇪 Mordlust, published at 2025-12-10 04:00

Trigger warning: This episode discusses suicidal thoughts. A loud knock on the apartment door wakes Katrin. The four-year-old barely understands what is happening when her mother sternly instructs her to get dressed on this winter morning in 1972. Shortly after, several men in winter coats stand in the apartment, grab Katrin's mother, and drag her out. Katrin sees her mother's face for the last time through the rear window of an emergency vehicle. Then she is gone. Without understanding what happened, Katrin first ends up in an orphanage and later with a married couple whom she now calls Mom and Dad. Katrin will never forget the day her mother disappeared. As an adult, she begins to search for answers – and uncovers an injustice that not only destroyed her family. This episode of "Mordlust – Crimes and their Backgrounds" is about families that are suddenly torn apart and search for the reasons for a long time. And it's about a state that claims to treat all people equally, but goes so far as to take everything from some – even what is most sacred to them: their children. Experts in this episode: Dr. Karsten Laudien, Professor of Ethics in the Social Work program at the Protestant University of Berlin; Head of the German Institute for Residential Care Research (DIH) and head of the research project on the reappraisal of forced adoptions in the Soviet Occupation Zone/GDR between 1945 and 1989. https://shorturl.at/EQ8yR Andreas Laake, founder of the Community of Interest for Stolen Children of the GDR. https://shorturl.at/GQyBM **Credit** Producers/Hosts: Paulina Krasa, Laura Wohlers Editorial Team: Paulina Krasa, Laura Wohlers, Emeli Glaser Editing: Pauline Korb Legal Approval: Abel und Kollegen **Sources (Selection)** Katrin Behr: Torn Away - The Day the GDR Took My Mother From Me WDR: Forced Adoptions in the GDR https://shorturl.at/j1nzI Deutschlandfunk Kultur: The Stolen Children https://shorturl.at/GwzYP Bundestag: Hearing "Stolen Children" https://www.bundestag.de/resource/blob/563416/95d17d33d8cb71ec634ade80434818e4/Stellungnahme-Dr-Sachse.pdf Focus: When Katrin Meets Her Mother After 20 Years, Her Life Falls Apart https://tinyurl.com/26zvxrb6 **Episode Partner** Do you want to learn more about our advertising partners? The Block: Barbie Dope, Photo Booth & World's Worst Girls

From 🇳🇴 Nesten hele uka med Lepperød, published at 2025-12-10 02:00

Wednesday means The Block! Martin has noticed the news stories that Barbie drug is back "in fashion" - and he doesn't think the side effects sound *that* bad... or? He has also heard that speed cameras have come to Sweden, and that a furious man took matters into his own hands and simply sawed down the entire speed camera. Martin, Jonis, and Henrik are on a Christmas tour these days, where at every single show they meet the world's best (or worst?) girls, and Martin gives a small lesson in good audience etiquette. And in "their thing," Martin is confronted with the fact that he might be a little *too* preoccupied with Gyda Oddekalv, while he explains how the transition from not having his life in order to suddenly having his life in order actually feels. The episode is produced by Karoline Fjelldal.

Milei backed the mining project to extract copper in Mendoza

    From 🇦🇷 Cara o Ceca, published at 2025-12-09 20:27

Javier Milei asked the Mendoza Legislature to accelerate the approval of the San Jorge mining project, which promises to invest 600 million dollars and produce 40,000 tons of copper annually. Environmental organizations warn that the initiative could jeopardize the Mendoza River basin, a key resource for the province, and are promoting actions to stop it. "For Mendoza, it's an important industrial opportunity because in the last 15 years we've had very little offering in private employment. Oil, our main source, has been declining due to a lack of exploration, and viticulture is in a global crisis. There are changes in habits; young people no longer drink wine," said on Cara o Ceca Guillermo Mosso, a legislator for the province of Mendoza for the Cambia Mendoza Front and an ally of the national government.

Gavin Baker - Nvidia v. Google, Scaling Laws, and the Economics of AI

From 🇺🇸 Invest Like the Best with Patrick O'Shaughnessy, published at 2025-12-09 15:05

My guest this week is Gavin Baker. Gavin is the managing partner and CIO of Atreides Management, and he has been on the show many times before.  I will never forget when I first met Gavin in 2017. I find his interest in markets, his curiosity about the world to be as infectious as any investor that I've ever come across. He's encyclopedic on what is going on in the world of technology today, and I've had the good fortune to host him every year or two on this podcast. Gavin began covering Nvidia as an investor more than two decades ago, giving him a rare perspective on how the company – and the entire semiconductor ecosystem – has evolved. A lot has changed since our last conversation a year ago, making this the perfect time to revisit the topic. In this conversation, we talk about everything that interests Gavin – Nvidia’s GPUs, Google’s TPUs, the changing AI landscape, the math and business models around AI companies and everything in between. We also discussed the idea of data centers in space, which he communicates with his usual passion and logic. In closing, at the end of this conversation, because I've asked him my traditional closing question before, I asked him a different question, which led to a discussion of his entire investing origin story that I had never heard before. Because Gavin is one of the most passionate thinkers and investors that I know, these conversations are always amongst my most favorite. I hope you enjoy this latest in the series of discussions with Gavin Baker. 248. Better Together: How to Supercharge Your Team’s Productivity

From 🇺🇸 Think Fast Talk Smart: Communication Techniques, published at 2025-12-09 14:00

The secret to effective teamwork and collaboration. To collaborate, we have to communicate. As Molly Sands knows, “The more that we can get on the same page, the more effective we are.”Sands is a behavioral scientist and the head of the Teamwork Lab at Atlassian, where she researches how teams can collaborate more effectively and efficiently, especially in distributed and hybrid work environments. As she’s seen in her research and within her own team, “People can accomplish a lot more together when they work well together.” The key to unlocking that potential lies in communication that aligns people not just in their activity, but in their deeper goals and vision. “The best work happens when you start by asking why,” she says, “getting people to really understand: why is this a problem, why do we wanna solve it, and how are we uniquely positioned to do that? The more that we can map this out together, the more effective our teams tend to be.”In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Sands and host Matt Abrahams discuss strategies for effective collaboration, from “page-led” meetings and asynchronous video messages to using AI as a collaborator. Whether your team is working face-to-face or across time zones, Sands’ insights show how better communication is the key to better collaboration.Episode Reference Links:Molly SandsEp.241 Team Spirit: How to Make Group Work Work On Apple: (21:15) 241. Moving Beyond the Slow, Hierarchical Organization

From 🇺🇸 HBR IdeaCast, published at 2025-12-09 13:00

Most companies say they want to be more innovative, agile, and customer-centric. But in reality, many still operate like 20th-century factories: hierarchical, risk-averse, and slow. Jana Werner, executive in residence of enterprise strategy at Amazon Web Services, argues that organizations should instead think of an octopus: an organism that manages complexity, can work in many different modes with some autonomy, but all moving in concert toward a common goal. Werner says the future belongs to companies that distribute decision-making, empower teams at the edge, and treat innovation as everyone’s job, and explains steps you can take as a leader to make this cultural shift. She's the coauthor along with Phil Le-Brun of the HBR article "Become an Octopus Organization" and the book, The Octopus Organization: A Guide to Thriving in a World of Continuous Transformation.
