Today's Report - December 10, 2025From 🇵🇱 Raport o stanie świata Dariusza Rosiaka, published at 2025-12-10 13:37
In major cities of Syria, celebrations were held related to the anniversary of the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime. On December 8 last year, after an 11-day offensive, forces of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham organization led by Ahmed al-Shara captured Damascus, announcing the end of the Assad family's bloody 54-year rule. Their culmination was a 13-year civil war. As a result, over 600,000 people died, and nearly seven million – one third of the population – fled the country.Over the past year, Ahmed al-Shara has brought Syria out of international isolation, significantly weakened Iran's influence, and established contact with the West, from where funds have begun to flow for the reconstruction of the devastated state. However, Syria is still shaken by ethnic violence. In March, government forces carried out attacks on coastal provinces inhabited by Alawites – members of a religious group that previously supported Assad; in July, acts of violence also occurred against Druze living in As-Suwayda province. In the north of the country, Kurds govern an autonomous province practically separated from central authority. What have the new authorities in Damascus managed to achieve? How is the country's reconstruction progressing? Does Syria actually have a chance to become a stable state?Guest: Jagoda Grondecka---------------------------------------------Report on the State of the World is a broadcast that exists thanks to our Patrons, join the fundraiser ➡️ https://patronite.pl/DariuszRosiakSubscribe to the Report on the State of the World newsletter ➡️ https://dariuszrosiak.substack.comReport T-shirts and mugs ➡️ https://patronite-sklep.pl/kolekcja/raport-o-stanie-swiata/ [Self-promotion]

Happiness does not depend on income, but on the attitude towards spending money | MM EP.2561From 🇹🇭 Mission To The Moon, published at 2025-12-10 13:00
Whether we earn a lot or a little, happiness from money doesn't always depend on the numbers, but on our attitude towards spending it. Many times, income increases but happiness doesn't, because we inadvertently spend according to higher standards, even though some things might not be necessary or don't make us feel much better. Let's re-examine our relationship with the word "money" to see what we should be cautious of and what we should spend on, so that we can use money more comfortably, suitable for our own lives, without forcing ourselves or overspending, yet still truly be happy. Strange threadfellows: How the U.S. military shaped what we all wearFrom 🇺🇸 Planet Money, published at 2025-12-10 08:00
From nuclear fission to GPS to the internet, it’s common knowledge that many of the most resource intensive technologies of the last century got their start as military R&D projects in government-funded labs. But as Avery Trufelman explains in her fashion history podcast, Articles of Interest, the influence of the US military is, in many ways, even more intimate than that, shaping much of the clothing we all wear everyday. On today’s show, a tale of Army surplus economics. How military designs trickled down from the soldiers on the front lines to the hippies on the war protest line to the yuppies in line at Banana Republic. And why some of your favorite outdoor brands may just be moonlighting as U.S. military suppliers, while keeping it as under the radar as they can.Pre-order the Planet Money book and get a free gift. / Subscribe to Planet Money+Listen free: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, the NPR app or anywhere you get podcasts.Facebook / Instagram / TikTok / Our weekly Newsletter. This episode of Planet Money was produced by Luis Gallo, edited by Jess Jiang, fact checked by Yasmine Alsayyad, and engineered by Robert Rodriguez. The podcast series "The EduChangers" is a journey to explore the legacies and inspiring stories of educational reformers. What time is it? Christmas time, so it’s our vacation! Just kidding, we might have one or two more fun releases for you guys before the end of the year. It’s just us in the studio this week, and we talk about our December plans (we can’t wait to leave Lagos, of course)… It’s also an intense & thought-provoking episode in which we discuss the erosion of real community, friendship, and communal life. We also discuss how impossible it is to solve our societal (and national) issues because of government irresponsibility, rather than individual apathy. We wrap up the episode with some truly interesting (derogatory) dilemmas: thinking your partner is razz & uncultured, and having a friend who secretly hates you. By the way, we also wanted to let guys know we’ll be going to see J Hus at Music City Central, and you should get your tickets right hurrr! https://url-shortener.me/2MDOThe Big Bounce Bash (December 21st) tickets are still up for sale at https://tix.africa/bounce-bash-25 Don't forget to use #ISWIS or #ISWISPodcast to share your thoughts while listening to the podcast on X! Confusion and disorder in the ChamberFrom 🇧🇷 O Assunto, published at 2025-12-10 04:26
Guest: Ana Flor, g1 columnist and GloboNews commentator. Deputy Glauber Braga (PSOL-RJ) occupied the chair of the Speaker of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB) around 4 PM on Tuesday (9). Hours earlier, Motta had announced that he would put to a vote later this week the revocation of Braga's mandate, who is accused of breaching parliamentary decorum by assaulting a militant from the Free Brazil Movement (MBL) in April 2024. Glauber Braga refused to leave Motta's chair until, at 5:34 PM, the TV Câmara signal was cut and the legislative police removed the press from the Plenary. Subsequently, shortly after 6 PM, Deputy Glauber was forcibly removed from the Presiding Board by the legislative police. After the commotion, Motta reopened the Chamber's proceedings. Around midnight, the deputies began to analyze the bill that benefits Jair Bolsonaro and others convicted of attempted coup. To explain how the confusion unfolded and what happened afterward, Natuza Nery speaks with journalist Ana Flor. A g1 columnist and GloboNews commentator, Ana Flor details the degree of unprecedented nature of the events recorded in the Chamber of Deputies this Tuesday. Directly from Congress, the journalist points out the difference in posture adopted by Hugo Motta now and in August, when Bolsonaro-allied parliamentarians occupied the Speaker's chair for two days. Ana also details the prospects for analyzing the revocations of the mandates of Glauber and deputies Carla Zambelli, Alexandre Ramagem, and Eduardo Bolsonaro, also announced by Hugo Motta for the coming days.

#225 The new mommyFrom 🇩🇪 Mordlust, published at 2025-12-10 04:00
Trigger warning: This episode discusses suicidal thoughts. A loud knock on the apartment door wakes Katrin. The four-year-old barely understands what is happening when her mother sternly instructs her to get dressed on this winter morning in 1972. Shortly after, several men in winter coats stand in the apartment, grab Katrin's mother, and drag her out. Katrin sees her mother's face for the last time through the rear window of an emergency vehicle. Then she is gone. Without understanding what happened, Katrin first ends up in an orphanage and later with a married couple whom she now calls Mom and Dad. Katrin will never forget the day her mother disappeared. As an adult, she begins to search for answers – and uncovers an injustice that not only destroyed her family. This episode of "Mordlust – Crimes and their Backgrounds" is about families that are suddenly torn apart and search for the reasons for a long time. And it's about a state that claims to treat all people equally, but goes so far as to take everything from some – even what is most sacred to them: their children. The Block: Barbie Dope, Photo Booth & World's Worst GirlsFrom 🇳🇴 Nesten hele uka med Lepperød, published at 2025-12-10 02:00
Wednesday means The Block! Martin has noticed the news stories that Barbie drug is back "in fashion" - and he doesn't think the side effects sound *that* bad... or? He has also heard that speed cameras have come to Sweden, and that a furious man took matters into his own hands and simply sawed down the entire speed camera. Martin, Jonis, and Henrik are on a Christmas tour these days, where at every single show they meet the world's best (or worst?) girls, and Martin gives a small lesson in good audience etiquette. And in "their thing," Martin is confronted with the fact that he might be a little *too* preoccupied with Gyda Oddekalv, while he explains how the transition from not having his life in order to suddenly having his life in order actually feels. The episode is produced by Karoline Fjelldal.
