Recenzja książki – Tomáš Forró „Śpiew syren. W głąb wojennej Ukrainy”

From 🇵🇱 Raport o stanie świata Dariusza Rosiaka, published at 2025-11-17 16:00

This book is a manifesto I join, and it reads: "Let's not say we are tired of the war, because we who do not experience it should not say so. Let's not say we no longer have the strength to listen and read about Ukraine, because we already know everything. That's not true. This war is not over, we must not turn away from it. It's closer than we think.” The excellent Slovak journalist Tomáš Forró wrote a 650-page report on the war in Ukraine. There is not a single unnecessary sentence in it. This story must be so long, because in order to understand what has been happening since February 24, 2022, it is necessary to expand the boundaries - both spatial and temporal - of this war. "The Siren's Song. Deep into Wartime Ukraine" is a book woven from great and small stories. It shows the war in Ukraine as a process of profound and most often irreversible change, to which everything is subject - landscape, architecture, political order, value system, family relations and human hearts. How to see (and stop) deforestation from space | Tasso Azevedo

From 🇺🇸 TED Talks Daily, published at 2025-11-17 16:00

Nearly 20 trees are cut down every second in the Amazon rainforest, as authorities struggle to monitor millions of acres and stop illegal clear-cutting. But land reformer Tasso Azevedo and his team at MapBiomas have changed the game, transforming satellite imagery into precise, real-time maps that make every clear-cut visible — and every actor accountable. Learn how they're helping slash deforestation in the Amazon, proving that transparency is a forest's strongest defense. 243. Rethinks: How Lessons from Neuroscience Can Help You Communicate Confidently

From 🇺🇸 Think Fast Talk Smart: Communication Techniques, published at 2025-11-17 14:00

Reduce speaking anxiety and achieve your communication goals.“There’s no difference between the physiological response to something that you’re excited about and something that you’re nervous about or dreading,” says Andrew Huberman, associate professor of neurobiology and ophthalmology at Stanford University. In this Think Fast Talk Smart Rethinks episode, we revisit one of our most popular interviews. In it, Huberman, from the wildly popular Huberman Lab Podcast, shares his research on the autonomic continuum, a spectrum between states of high alertness or fear all the way down to deep sleep, and shares how to use the system to your advantage. “If people can conceptualize that the anxiety or stress response is the same as the excitement response, they feel different,” Huberman says.Episode Reference Links:Andrew HubermanEp.33 Hacking your Speaking Anxiety: How Lessons from Neuroscience Can Help You Communicate Confidently Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> [email protected] Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInChapters:(00:00) - Introduction (02:46) - Stress & the Autonomic Continuum (04:54) - Controlling Alertness & Calmness (08:43) - Movement & Audience Perception (11:08) - Eye Movements for Anxiety Reduction (13:28) - Two Approaches to Managing Stress (18:12) - Preparing for Stress in Advance (20:14) - Effective Virtual Communication (22:16) - The Final Three Questions (27:09) - Conclusion ********Thank you to our sponsors.  These partnerships support the ongoing production of the podcast, allowing us to bring it to you at no cost.Strawberry.me. Emmett Shear on Building AI That Actually Cares: Beyond Control and Steering

    From 🇺🇸 a16z Podcast, published at 2025-11-17 11:00

Emmett Shear, founder of Twitch and former OpenAI interim CEO, challenges the fundamental assumptions driving AGI development. In this conversation with Erik Torenberg and Séb Krier, Shear argues that the entire "control and steering" paradigm for AI alignment is fatally flawed. Instead, he proposes "organic alignment" - teaching AI systems to genuinely care about humans the way we naturally do. The discussion explores why treating AGI as a tool rather than a potential being could be catastrophic, how current chatbots act as "narcissistic mirrors," and why the only sustainable path forward is creating AI that can say no to harmful requests. Shear shares his technical approach through multi-agent simulations at his new company Softmax, and offers a surprisingly hopeful vision of humans and AI as collaborative teammates - if we can get the alignment right.

Zika, 10 years: the mothers of the epidemic

    From 🇧🇷 O Assunto, published at 2025-11-17 03:17

Guests: Adriana Melo, pioneer in identifying Zika virus infection in pregnant women; and Marcelly Setúbal, producer of the series "Zika: 10 Years Later." In November 2015, Brazil declared a Zika virus epidemic – an exceptional measure after an atypical increase in the number of babies born with microcephaly. Most cases were registered in the Northeast. One of the first doctors to identify the relationship between the Zika virus and microcephaly was Adriana Melo, interviewed by Natuza Nery in this episode. Ten years later, Adriana recalls how an alert sounded when observing a baby's brain on an ultrasound of one of her patients. She recounts how it was possible to identify the causal relationship between the Zika virus and cases of microcephaly. Adriana also explains what other types of damage the virus causes in the development of babies. To tell how the thousands of women who, ten years ago, gave birth to babies with microcephaly are doing, Natuza listens to Marcelly Setúbal. Producer of the series “Zika: 10 Years Later,” from GloboNews, the journalist traveled to cities in Pernambuco and Rio de Janeiro to show how the mothers and their children with microcephaly are doing. Marcelly reports how these families were left without assistance, both by the government and by their own fathers.
