The Chinese business world welcomes a long-lost "subsidy war." E-commerce giants have entered the arena, with large coupons flying everywhere, reminiscent of the O2O war a decade ago. * What ambition lies behind Meituan's heavy investment in flash sales? As the most calculating company, can it successfully enter the e-commerce "trillion club" through flash sales this time? * What is the mystery behind JD.com's entry into food delivery? Is it offense or defense? * How many resources will the belated Alibaba mobilize to participate in the war? Why isn't the food delivery subsidy led by Ele.me, but by Taobao itself? * Is large-scale platform subsidies a blessing or a curse for merchants? Every year we have special programs on the e-commerce industry. This year, let's focus on this instant retail war. ## Japan Study Tour The fourth Crazy Capital Japan study tour is scheduled to take place in Tokyo, Japan from September 7th to 12th, 2025. From "The Witcher" to "Frostpunk": A casual discussion of the history and philosophy behind Polish games

From 忽左忽右

-Introduction- When mentioning Polish games, players often think of "Polish donkeys" The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, but the industrial history behind them is little known. Damian Jaśkowski, a Polish man who has been in China for many years, has unique observations on the game industries in Poland and China, and is committed to building a bridge of communication. Why do Polish games prefer survivalism and science fiction themes? Looking back at the history of Polish game development, from early tape dubbing to today's "game power", how did Polish games go global? Why do Chinese local games always adopt the "free-to-play, item-charging" model? How will Polish game companies respond to Asia and emerging markets? Yu Kai's 30-year oral history: the world is more than just swords and shadows, it's a bustling story of people coming and going.

From 张小珺Jùn|商业访谈录

Today's guest is Dr. Yu Kai, founder and CEO of Horizon Robotics. In the past 49 years of his life, **he has navigated the academic circles of Germany and the United States, the Chinese internet circle, the venture capital circle, the capital circle, and the automotive circle.** In each circle and "jianghu" (江湖, a term for the martial arts world or a specific community), he started as an unknown nobody and leveled up. In the end, he did well in every circle. A former senior executive who has dealt with him commented, **Yu Kai is one of the most socially intelligent scientists.** Yu Kai graduated from Nanjing University and the University of Munich. After graduation, he worked for Siemens and NEC Research Institute. In 2012, he returned to China to join Baidu, and in 2015, he left to found Horizon Robotics. Coincidentally, 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of Horizon Robotics' founding. **This year, I spoke with Dr. Yu Kai twice, and this episode is his oral history.** With the outbreak of the large language model wave, more artificial intelligence scientists are pouring into the entrepreneurial track from universities. Yu Kai's entrepreneurial philosophy may give everyone some inspiration - **entrepreneurship is not only about technology and business, nor is it just about conflict and competition, but also a "jianghu" story of people coming and going.** Just like Zhang Zuolin's line in the TV series "Young Marshal": "Jianghu is not about fighting, it's about social skills." In 2025, we will progress together with AI! 03:06 **Entering the Academic Jianghu** Initially unknown in academic circles, a fortune teller said I would be "unknown and work in vain" before the age of 24. I have published over 100 papers. I am very intoxicated, and I would appreciate my previous papers late at night. Stories of meeting Geoffrey Hinton, Yann LeCun, and Andrew Ng. There was a very silent person sitting opposite me, and no one paid attention to him. He was eating alone - this person is Richard Sutton, who recently won the Turing Award. 31:18 **Entering the Internet Jianghu Again** I should be the first Chinese AI scholar who studied in the United States to return to China. I immediately wrote to Geoffrey Hinton, and he replied: Kai, that's great, but would you mind if I also asked other companies? The authorization I received at the time was to bid up to $24 million. After $24 million, I had to discuss each bid with the domestic side. In order to win with a small probability, I took the lead and offered $12 million. "Hey, you see Geoffrey Hinton doesn't seem to show up at meetings often, what's he doing...?" I asked him: Hey, Andrew (Andrew Ng), what are you doing? How is everything going? I started to test him. Andrew Ng was shocked! He said: You tricked me into Baidu, and you ran away yourself, that's not cool! 51:19 **Entering the Entrepreneurial Jianghu Again** I made three investments: I bought Nvidia, I bought Tesla, and I wholeheartedly invested in Horizon Robotics. This guy told me: Brother, you know what? My status at home now depends on that sentence of yours! When Horizon Robotics was just founded, I looked at it, and Nvidia was only a $10.7 billion company, now it's 3 trillion! What is one frustration that Andrew Ng had while leading Google Brain at Google? Not being able to buy GPUs! Consensus is either wrong or worthless. What is your business secret? What is something you saw that others didn't see? Is there a bug in this world? Is there a narrow door to the future that most people haven't paid attention to? 01:11:21 **Entering the Capital Jianghu Too** We didn't write a single page of BP (business plan) and raised the first round. I thought: Wow, life is so easy! As a result, in the second round, I discovered that I met with 50-60 institutions, and none of them placed an order. It was particularly tough... no one understood... What I said was almost dry... for a long time... in the dark... and no one was moved. I set an iron rule: the first time I meet with an investor, it must not be in his office, but in my office. I kept pretending! I said: I really don't have time, I am just a focused, low-EQ scientist, tinkering with my own things, and I'm too lazy to deal with you. We created the legendary 12 mini-rounds of Series C, taking 1.6 billion US dollars in one go - this is also a counter-consensus - without adding 1 cent of valuation in the middle. Wow, Horizon Robotics actually has 102 shareholder investment institutions, I don't even know how I managed to get them. 01:21:39 **Switching to the Automotive Jianghu** Scientists often have this problem when starting a business: 360-degree scanning. After Zeng Ming's class, many of our classmates went back and cut directions and laid off teams. One night while sleeping, I suddenly woke up in shock: Damn, this is not right! With Changan: deliberately losing the game, you have to lose elegantly, discreetly, and deliberately. With Li Xiang: Li Xiang told me when we climbed the mountain in early 2019: You should focus on the automotive direction. With He Xiaopeng: I haven't conquered Xiaopeng yet - sometimes you have to attack head-on, sometimes you have to go around. With Wang Chuanfu: We seized the opportunity window, which is equivalent to opening a small crack in the door, and we rushed in with a "whoosh." 02:09:48 **I am not a Jianghu Person** My role model for leaders is Liu Bang. Do you know who my favorite character is in these movies? Rhett Butler in "Gone with the Wind." My surname is Yu, and the company's name is Horizon - leeway, leeway, always leave leeway for people and things. Intelligent driving: OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) will not self-develop in the future, it is a standardized function. 3 years to complete 100% hands-off, 5 years to complete 100% eyes-off, 10 years to complete 100% minds-off. What is the death door? The CUDA of robots. Next-generation chip innovation. 02:35:23 **Final Quick Q&A** I think the world is a pre-written program, and everyone is acting according to the script. 02:39:26 **Additional Extras** Teaching skills: If you are determined to resign, don't say anything bad about the company. Yan Junjie's hairstyle is like mine (joke). Andrew Ng and I seriously discussed entrepreneurship in the United States. I drank Maotai with a college graduate to adjust him, unlike Li Xiang who is decisive. Why is the WeChat profile picture Guan Yu? [From Steam Engine to Self-Driving] Series 《3-Hour Interview with Li Xiang (Podcast Version): Otaku, AI, Family, Games and Ladder》 《Chatting with He Xiaopeng about FSD, "Swimming in a Sea of Blood," Heroes and Dogs in Troubled Times》 《Dialogue with Ola Källenius, Global CEO of Mercedes-Benz: CEO in Transition and 139-Year-Old Mercedes-Benz in Transition》 《Chatting with Lou Tiancheng about Robotaxi and ACRush: "The better L2 is done, the further away L4 is"》 Text version of this episode: 《Dialogue with Yu Kai: The World is More Than Swords and Shadows, It's a Jianghu Story of People Coming and Going》

An unfinished film – silence and tears from the audience.

From 不明白播客

As a film directly confronting the pandemic and lockdowns, Lou Ye's "An Unfinished Film" understandably failed to be released in China and lacked a Douban entry. However, people still saw the film in overseas cinemas and in secretly circulated online drives. Director Lou Ye once said that a film exists because it is seen by the audience. Recently, we invited listeners to write down their feelings after watching the film. Many people mentioned forgetting, memories awakened by the film, and crying and silence while watching. The film stirred up so many complex, profound, and heavy emotions because many memories have not been properly preserved, and much history has not been properly treated. These letters are not only viewing emotions but also our collective response and testimony to the three years of the pandemic and the era of silence. Thank you to the listeners for their sincere letters. With their consent, we have for the first time attempted to use AI to generate the listeners' voices. There are minor spoilers in the letters. From 忽左忽右

-Introduction- Urban history scholar Meng Hao, after studying old-fashioned public bathhouses in Shanghai, delved into the urban history of his hometown, Guiyang. In addition to studying how Yang Sen, a powerful figure in southwestern China during the late Anti-Japanese War, built "New Guizhou," he also focused on national sports and public life in Guiyang. When a warlord with a Gēlahui background governed the city, how did Yang Sen "military train" all the citizens of Guiyang? 414 Karl Gützlaff's China Adventure: The Prussian Eccentric Behind the Opium War

From 忽左忽右

-Intro- In the early 19th century, a peculiar Prussian missionary arrived in Tianjin. Fluent in Hokkien, he worked for the British government and the East India Company. He was labeled as many things: translator, doctor, local official, opium merchant, "traitor"... A century later, scholar Li Wuzhe discovered more facets of Karl Gützlaff in the archives, and the neglected story of "opening China." Why were late Qing missionaries associated with opium merchants? How do historians analyze the formation of Gützlaff's eccentric personality? What was his relationship with the Taiping Rebellion? This episode doesn't have grand narratives; it's quite casual. The guest is Meng Qiu, founding partner of Qingliu Capital and former Technology VP of Baidu. Longtime listeners of "Business Interview" may know that Meng Qiu basically returns every year to catch up on the current venture capital climate and her own life. In the wolf-culture-dominated Chinese investor circle, Meng Qiu has always been very Buddhist and Taoist. This episode is even more relaxed. She frankly says that work is quite boring, so after discussing serious topics, we also talked about reading, travel, movies, and girls' chattering. (This episode was recorded at the end of April) Our podcast program is first launched on Tencent News. From 不明白播客

Since the 1980s, over 800 million Chinese people have been lifted out of poverty. Hundreds of millions have moved from rural areas to cities, and tens of millions have become the first college students in their families. For many, it was an era full of opportunities for upward mobility. However, in recent years, with the economic slowdown, this channel for upward mobility has become increasingly narrow. We asked our listeners to submit stories of "feeling anxious about class solidification." In the previous episode, we heard two middle-aged people share how their lives struggled with the ups and downs of the economic situation. The three narrators in this episode are all born in the 90s. Boris saved money after working for 6 years to study for a postgraduate degree in Hong Kong. He wanted to get rid of the regret of his first academic qualification, but found that he had to face a more difficult employment environment than when he graduated from undergraduate. Liang, a student studying for a doctorate in Japan, calls himself an extreme case of social mobility. Josh, who graduated from a 211 university, like many young people, feels confused about his major, work, and future. What are their stories? How did the "small-town exam takers" who once firmly believed in "education changes destiny" reinterpret this sentence in the process of growing up? How do they view their situation? How to redefine "effort" and "hope"? We also have to think about where society will go if a generation of young people lose hope for the future? In addition, almost all of the letters collected this time came from male listeners. In the future, we look forward to hearing more voices from women. Text version: [https://bit.ly/bmb-157-text](https://bit.ly/bmb-157-text) **Timeline:** 02:09 Boris's self-introduction: Graduated in 2016, went to Hong Kong for postgraduate studies after working for 6 years 02:27 Comparison of the job search environment faced by the two graduations 07:31 339 resumes were sent out, with a response rate of 13% 08:13 Encountered absurd questions in the interview: academic discrimination, family background questioning 09:11 The job search period lasted 9 months, and both money and confidence suffered a double blow 11:31 Boris, as the child of laid-off workers, worked part-time at university 13:28 Mom canceled the school's text message notification to save 3 yuan 18:59 Motivation to move up: verbal stimulation from relatives, self-esteem, disappointment with vocational education 23:24 Believes he has benefited from gender and economic dividends, pessimistic about the future 27:45 Liang: "If you want to know where the limit of small-town exam takers is" 28:02 Born in a western state-owned enterprise family, felt increasingly strong class gap from elementary school to university 32:52 Entering university, the biggest challenge is "not knowing what to do" 35:22 Feels obvious unfairness, but is very proud of his achievements 36:58 Tutoring, distributing flyers, "doing whatever he can", graduated from university and saved money to go to Japan 39:54 Received an offer from Columbia University, was scared off by the high tuition fees, and chose to stay in Japan 41:25 Considers himself an extreme case of social mobility, and hardly contacts his elementary school classmates anymore 42:46 Self-taught Japanese, extremely low consumption, living an ascetic life 44:09 Future choice to stay in Japan 46:24 Josh: Born in a rural area in the south, his parents are migrant workers, and he started participating in family labor in childhood 48:01 Disappointment after going to university: utilitarian atmosphere, dislike of major 48:53 The first job only lasted half a year, resigned to take the postgraduate entrance examination 50:42 Father tried to spend money to ask for favors to find him a job 52:05 Spent 20,000 yuan to sign up for a re-employment training class 54:13 Found a new job, but resigned again soon due to "high pressure" 01:02:16 Started feeling the gap from student days, high school classmates had early access to the external network and learned programming 01:03:22 Being a civil servant, doing business, joining a big company, it is difficult to turn over no matter what you do 01:05:54 Josh's imagination of the future: unwilling to marry and have children in the future Related links: [https://bumingbai.net/2025/06/22/ep-156-jiecengguhua/](https://bumingbai.net/2025/06/22/ep-156-jiecengguhua/) [https://bumingbai.net/2024/09/28/ep-115-jiuye/](https://bumingbai.net/2024/09/28/ep-115-jiuye/) Hosted on Acast. From 故事FM

Story FM ❜ Episode 847 In the dead of night, do you ever think of the secrets buried deep in your heart? Maybe it's an irreparable regret from your youth, maybe it's a truth that overturned your understanding at some point, or maybe it's just a simple but heavy "I'm sorry" that was never spoken... Story FM often receives submissions from listeners. I've found that many people submit to Story FM because they want to tell a secret of their own, a hidden experience. These contributors don't want the people around them to know, but they hope someone can hear it. Because the longer a secret is buried in the heart, the heavier it becomes, until it's too heavy for one person to bear. Only at the moment it's spoken can the burden be lifted and a sigh of relief be taken. Today, three contributors have decided to push open that door in their hearts and tell you the secrets they've been holding back for years. If you listen to their stories and you also have a secret you'd like to share on the show, you're welcome to find the submission link in the menu of the WeChat official account Story FM and submit it to us. 412 离开豺狼的日子:福赛斯的政治惊悚小说世界

From 忽左忽右

- Introduction - On June 9, 2025, Frederick Forsyth, the original author of the classic spy novel "The Day of the Jackal," passed away in London at the age of 86. His life was as legendary as his novels: at 19, he was a fighter pilot in the Royal Air Force, and after retiring, he became a war correspondent for Reuters, delving into the front lines of war. In his later years, he revealed in his autobiography that he had secretly served British MI6 in a dual capacity for 20 years. However, why did Forsyth, who hated the British government, choose to serve MI6? What amazing and interesting intelligence stories did Forsyth experience in East Germany? Compared with other spy novelists such as le Carré, what unique values does Forsyth's work reveal?
