Raport for today - September 3, 2025
On Tuesday, aftershocks struck eastern Afghanistan, two days after a powerful earthquake killed at least 1,400 and injured 3,000. The magnitude 6 earthquake was centered about 30 kilometers from Jalalabad on Sunday night. The Taliban, who have ruled the country for four years, have appealed for humanitarian aid to various countries – some have responded positively, while others have doubts about the nature of the government in Kabul. Two weeks ago, the authorities in the capital organized celebrations commemorating the Taliban's takeover in August 2021. Does the latest tragedy change anything in the West's approach to Afghanistan? How is the Taliban rule going, who benefits from it, who loses? And is any significant change possible in the country?
